Over ons / About us

Onze catalogus is hier een weerspiegeling van met onder meer I, Daniel Blake, The Artist, Hors Normes, Amour, A Single Man, Das Weisse Band, Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu, The Father, The Worst Person in the World, Decision to Leave, The Whale, Priscilla, en The Zone of Interest.

Cinéart is an independent Benelux film distributor releasing great films in the cinemas, on Video, VOD, Platforms and TV. Cinéart was founded in 1975 by the late Eliane Dubois in Brussels. In 2008, after years of partnership with A-Film, Cinéart opened its Dutch subsidiary in Amsterdam. Around that time, Marc Smit and Stephan De Potter gradually took over Cinéart and have since become sole owners.

Cinéart’s aim is to release films telling great stories and giving purpose & meaning. We are director-driven, faithful to many wonderful filmmakers from around the world. Our catalogue speaks volumes with a.o. I, Daniel Blake, The Artist, Hors Normes, Amour, A Single Man, Das Weisse Band, Portrait de la Jeune Fille en Feu, The Father, The Worst Person in the World, Decision to Leave, The Whale, Priscilla, and The Zone of Interest. Our strength lies in the passion shared by the entire team in our Brussels and Amsterdam offices. A record 19 golden palms, 15 Oscars Best Film (4 Best Film and 11 Best Foreign Language Film) and countless other awards are a testimony of our consistency.

In 2020, Cinéart also made its first steps in Development and Equity Financing via its London-based Joint Venture with Curzon and Madman: the CCM Development Fund. MERKEL by Eva Weber and SWIMMING HOME by Justin Anderson (with Alba Rohrwacher, Christopher Abbott) are completed. BALLAD OF A SMALL PLAYER by Ed Berger and BAD APPLES by Jonatan Etzler (with Saoirse Ronan) are soon going into production. To just name a few. In addition, Cinéart is also directly involved as executive producer / equity financier to the Darren Aronofsky-produced film RISE (directed by Sandra Winther) and EP on Martin Koolhoven’s EMERALD BUTTEFLY. Many more to come.

In 2025, THE PULSE Cinema will open its doors in Amsterdam with Cinéart as lead investor. We also are partners of the PALACE in Brussels.
